middle school band students [15 Oct 2006|04:40pm]
There has been a new wrinkle to my quiet (ha!) apartment building. A kid right across the hall has taken to practicing scales on a clarinet (squawking) at all hours. Only slightly better than the man who plays loud music at midnight beneath me.

MCM [15 Oct 2006|02:49am]
So my man is running in the Marine Corps Marathon...It's amazing the technology that these races come up with. (see http://www.marinemarathon.com/race_info/spectators.htm ) I can sign up to get an automatic text message sent to my phone as his racing RFID chip passes certain points in the marathon. This lets me know approximately when he will be passing certain points on the course. So cool.

Racing [03 Oct 2006|06:22pm]
I went down to Quantico, VA last Saturday at 4:45 in the morning. Why so early, you ask? The man (boy, lover) was racing in a half-marathon, one of the training events for the Marine Corps Marathon coming up in October. I had never been to a professional race before, and the man had never competed in one before (even though he loves running) so it was quite the experience. The runners get these little RFID chips that they tie to their shoelaces, so that official times are tracked.

It was cold and icky on hour and a half for me...but exciting, sweaty, and chaffing for the boy. He came in around 80th overall (out of 1500+ people). Apparently, these races are really popular for the 30-35 male category, so he didn't do too badly. In fact, he told me before we started that he was going to estimate his time to be around 2.5 hours. He so underestimated his time, in fact, that I was barely able to snap a pic of him at the finish line.

My newish apartment. In all it's glory. Can be found here.

I had a wonderful time in SLC. When I don't feel so exhausted by my lack of computer memory (just resizing these pics took close to an hour) I will attempt to post some of my fun.

(I've noticed that I don't like to title my entries. What the fuck is up with that?)

I'm going to Land O'Mormon for the next week. I have a class on the basics of environmental planning, so the Air Force is sending me out to Utah. Should be fun. My hotel is right downtown, so I'll take lots of pictures of the Great Temple to Lance Loden's Religion and actually try to post them. I've been without digital camera for a while, so that's why no pictures of my apartment, lover, or the inside of my refrigerator. Otherwise, picture crazy! I'm getting a roll of film developed of the tidal basin/FDR memorial as I type, but I probably won't get around to picking it up until I come back from SLC.

Tomorrow I get to go drinking again! Woo! (Somehow I don't think that I will be doing much drinking on my work trip...Maybe I should pack some coffee too...) Now I've got to update my pod with music for the horribly long plane ride out. No liquids. Teitur: Poetry and Aeroplanes definitely on the list.

I have a life! So wonderful to have friends and friends of friends within a driving radius instead of a flying one.

And it's Friday! Vodka, anyone?

Guess how cool I am? That's right, I troubleshooted my own wonky DSL problem, without resorting to calling the Verizon help people. (I just saved you $15 an hour, verizon...how 'bout taking that off my bill?) I feel all techie and stuff. Mike, Jim, and Q-ball would be proud.

Little Miss Sunshine is a must see. You will pee your pants with laughter. Even my skeptical lover thought it was good. Stick.up.butt!

I'm going to see Little Miss Sunshine tonight and eat homemade apricot cake. yum!

Dried-up gel pens [27 Aug 2006|02:07pm]
Today I tried (unsuccessfully) to write a letter to one of my friends with metallic gel pens on black paper. I've had the gel pens forever, so I was pretty sure it would be a somewhat futile task. I got halfway through the letter, so I was pretty optimistic that I would finish, but wouldn't you know it wouldn't write one.letter.more. Dang pens. I tried a word or two more with some of the other pens in my stash (and if you've ever seen it, you know it's far too large) but no go. All the other gels have been filed in the trash, as the ink stopped running years ago.

Some things, like good friendships, last for a long time. Some things, like gel pens, are not meant to last so long. So sorry, Jess; you are just going to have to get a letter written on plain paper.

I had dinner at a friend's last night, and then we watched Labyrinth. I keep forgetting that I am not supposed to act like like a total David Bowie freak, and spent the whole movie singing along.

I saw my baby, crying hard as babe could cry
What could I do
My baby's love had gone
And left my baby blue
Nobody knew...

I hate not having the internet at my house. Damn comcast. I don't even want to talk about them taking a month to come out to give me all the channels that I was currently getting for free out of an anntenae. Yet you have to subscribe to it to get their cable internet service.

[02 May 2006|04:00pm]
Hello. Good-bye. I'm out of here.

My moving date has finally been set for the 10th (when the moving company will come and pack up all of my stuff), and then on the 11th-14th I will be traveling to Maryland to start my new job. Lots of things still to do. The purging of a few of my belongings, the boxing up of nostalgia to leave behind, getting an oil change, making hotel reservations, calling people. I am also making these endless to-do lists. It seems like I will never be able accomplish everything that I need to.

I saw Mr. Tremontana at the black hole of video rental today. He didn't say anything when I just typed in his name and didn't ask for his card. I think that he was trying to place me. I guess it's pretty easy to forget one of your friend's ex-girlfriends, but it's hard not to remember a nearly seven foot tall goateed man. All I was thinking the whole time he was in there was Carime covered in chocolate pudding. I restrained myself from saying anything, thankfully. he!

I've spent the past few months hibernating...well, reading and working and drawing and writing. I get sluggish in the winter and don't feel like doing much except snuggling in a blanket and eating rich, carbohydrate laden foodstuffs. (Stuffed! How apropos.) It must be a lack of sunlight thing.

I've read several good books: Julie and Julia. Funny and uses about 20 pounds of butter. I bought another copy of High Fidelity, since I can no longer find my other one. Still as good as I remember it to be. The new Readymade magazine book. Very good, I highly recommend. The Commitment by Dan Savage (of good ol' Savage Love). Incontinent-ally funny. (The best line, uttered by a brainwashed six-year-old, "George Bush is a weasel!")

I've gotten over my disappointment in ER by two other medical shows, House and Grey's Anatomy. I don't watch anything else on TV now except the Gilmore Girls. Sad.

I miss dating. It sucks not to have someone to go out with at a telephone call. The boys here are all gibbering idiots.

food porn. [09 Oct 2005|08:15am]
Did you know that the target audiance for the food network was males, ages 18-35? I was listening to On The Media yesterday, and thought that the comparison of watching iron chef to enjoying kinky sex was funny. take that, food network.
